From being around new writers, they are so concerned with what others think that they really can't write. A writer is somewhat like a ballerina. All are beautiful, but have their own personality and extraordinary gifts to bring to the publishing world. A critique, is only a critique by one person. If they harshly "criticize" they may be "judging your style." Jump off that train as quickly as possible. A good critique comes from a person who supports. Listen to that voice!
hello, just trying to see if "post a comment works?"
ReplyDeleteI guess if you just click anonymous, it will post automatically - so that is the way to post a comment on this site. Good Grief!
ReplyDeleteGreat blog. Have to visit often and see what you are up to:)
ReplyDeleteI hear a lot of authors say they don't have time to write. But I look at it as doing what you love and living in the momet. That is what I mean about write in seconds. If you just plant to write one second, probably more will follow. If it is only 2 sentences, you wrote that day! From Rebecca
ReplyDeletefrom rebecca: So, tired tonight that my spelling was awful! Sorry state for an author! Yikes
ReplyDeleteGood blog post. It's a delicate balance. I'm sure you thought my critique was harsh and self-centered, but you did say I should just let it all out, so I did. Hope you're okay with it. You seem to be avoiding me of late. Cheers.
ReplyDeleteLove all of your writings. Keep up the good work. Looking forward to your next published story/book.
ReplyDeleteTo PS from Rebecca: Thank you for your comment! I have quite a bit of Russian history to review as well as how my topic has evolved in America, and I need to visit people places and things, and interview in Denver. So I'm still in the research phase, but I'll write a bit as I go along, and go back and revise if my history is totally "goofed" up! At this point all I can say about writing is that you write what matters to you, some will support others will not, and we all have to fly in the face of other's opinions. Life is easier on cogs that independent souls, that's for sure! However to be yourself, and independent in writing is a good thing. Many people will "get" it, others won't. And diversity is ok. I've been taught diversity all my life, growing up in Boulder, Colorado, so a narrow point of view always "baffles" me a bit, can throw me off guard, but I come back to my writing and find myself once again. I'd rather not be a "cog."
ReplyDeleteto PS from Rebecca: Oh, by the way, if you know anyone with children, my book "Lilly the Little Lave Mouse," was posted on Amazon at $40. That was rediculous! I'm selling them for $10 plus shipping. It was translated into Kiswahili by a top translator at the University of Niarobi, Kenya, and placed in children's orphanages (I'm a terrible speller) for ESL, so the children can get out of poverty and get job. (all philanthropic, no money to me naturally - but I love to help those kids). Also, one of the top educators in the US government, loved my book! I'm going to re-write and get it on the market through an agent rather than self-publishing. I have about 8 more to go, if this one ever gets picked up by an agent!

ReplyDeletefor my friend:
The loss of a child. The void masked in silence. Emptiness takes hold. The laughter, hugs, kisses and a small hand in yours gone forever. Look to the sky. Sunshine, clouds or perhaps a brilliant moon and startling stars. Hearts shrouded in darness.
Welp, can't spell again, the word is darkness, not darness! Where is my editor when I need one?

I'm glad you have the blog up and running!
